The notch can hold a file for a moment. It is not a cloud drive
When a file is already on your Mac, drag it into the MyNotchBar notch panel and leave it at the top of the screen until you need it. That fits a download, a screenshot, or the few files you are about to drop into Mail or a document.
The shelf is local to that Mac. MyNotchBar does not upload dragged-in files. It also does not replace Finder, iCloud, or Time Machine. When you are done, put the real file back in its project folder.
How to drop a file on the notch and take it back
These steps match the support page. There is no extra cloud-sync switch.
- Launch MyNotchBar. Move the pointer to the notch at the top of the screen, or use the shortcut set in the app. It runs in the notch and menu bar and does not stay in the Dock.
- Drag a file into the notch panel.
- When you need it, drag it from the panel to the Desktop, a Finder window, or another app that accepts drops.
- Put the finished file back in its folder. The shelf saves a search. It is not a backup.
Downloads, Desktop, and filters
Besides files you drag in, the notch can open items already in Downloads, Desktop, and Documents, and filter them to images or documents. After AirDrop, look in Downloads first; photos may also open in Photos. AirDrop still does the transfer. The notch is how you reach the file afterward.
If macOS asks for folder access, that permission is only for files you drag in or select, and for completing the drop. You can decline folders that are not part of the task.
Yoink, Dropover, and other shelves
Yoink, Dropover, and file trays inside other notch apps are also ways to park a file on a Mac. This page does not compare their prices or ratings. It only describes the MyNotchBar drag-and-drop.
MyNotchBar is a paid Mac App Store app, not a free edition of those tools. The current public download is app id 6780394254, not TestFlight.
